Welcome to the Memory Care T.E.A.M.S. blog!

Memory Care T.E.A.M.S. is a program that is a part of Speech Pathology Services of East Tennessee.  Our program is designed to be an early intervention for people that have been diagnosed with dementia.  Our staff includes Becky Martin, CCC-SLP,  and Karen Nolan, OTR.  Both Ms. Martin and Ms. Nolan have worked extensively with dementia and cognitive impairments and bring a passion to working with all of our clients.

Research has shown that when a person receives a diagnosis of dementia, early intervention programs, such as Memory Care T.E.A.M.S., can help delay the progression of the disease and can also help family members cope with the tasks of care-giving for their loved one with dementia (Moniz-Cook 2010). Our early intervention program provides an assessment of the client with dementia regarding their overall functioning, and our therapists provide an individualized treatment plan for what their needs are at the time based on the assessment.

Memory Care T.E.A.M.S. also has a social worker on staff that provides assistance for caregivers.  The social worker will meet with client's family and discuss resources and assistance for the client, as well as resources and support for the family.  Our social worker will offer individual therapy for caregivers that are experiencing high levels of stress, as well as a support group for families.

There are also opportunities outside of therapy time for support and education!  Our team has a Let's Talk series that covers a range of topics that are relevant to dementia, a book club exclusively for dementia clients, and many more events to come.  We will regularly post updates on our blog as well as on social media, so don't forget to follow us there and stay up to date!
